Ceramic Bead issue?

Just cleaned my small Sebbie and encountered something unusual when back together . . .

With the lock bar out of the way, the blade pivots in the usual glass smooth fashion.

With the lock bar in it's normal position it feels like I'm scraping the blade when opening.

Yes, it has been lubed.

Back to Boise or what?

Checked the ball with a magnifier . . . a slight flat is worn but no sharp bits appear to be showing. Re-lubed it with the CRK grease and the problem seems resolved. May be a reaction between the grease and the pure silicone I lubed it with first.

i'd take it apart and put it back together again. sounds like something is just not seated correctly.

You might have pinched a washer, strip it down and put it back together.

Washers reversed (side to side - large on the small side) ?

I had the exact same problem with with my large regular. How did you reassemble the knife? The first time I took it apart to clean I reassembled it by putting the lock side down then put the blade in and then put the front side on and screwed it all down. I had a terrible scratching feeling when opening the blade, and the lock would disengage with a very light spine whack. I later found the instructions on how to reassemble your sebbie on this forum, and did it that way. Assembling the handles first and then sliding the blade and washers in last. It is a little tricky but it completely fixed the problem, and I have never had the issue since then, and I have probably had it apart a dozen times. I would try that before I sent it to CRK. Hope this helps.

I too tried the assemble all in one shot, but that doesn't work quite as well. Put the handles together then the blade and pivot assembly.

I've had the same thing happen. In my case it was just some lint from the cleaning rag, stuck in the ceramic ball. I'd clean and lube the ball, and the part of the tang that the ball rides on.

I've reassembled several times - no joy
Yes, both the ball and the detent were lubed
No, the washers are not reversed

There is a visible track where the ball bears on the blade - looks like more than just wear

Mine does that regardless how its put back together. Upon close inspection I noticed the
detent ball has a flat spot on it. It works fine as long as I use a drop of gun oil on it once
in a while. (I didn't know the ball was ceramic, when did this start?)

The ball has always been ceramic as far as I know.

If it's getting worn down send it in and have them take a look at it.

One of the interesting tidbits from the trip my 1997 regular took back to CRK was that they replaced the ball with a ceramic one, so apparently at some point they were steel. Who knew?
