Ceramic Blade?

As a donation promotion I received a Caping Knife. Made or marketed by Stone River Trading company and realize this is no high end product.

Years back I looked at a couple of ceramic blade knifes and the surface appearance of the blade did look different that any of the conventional steel blades. At the time that may have been the result of marketing to draw attention to the new material. This one has a black oxide finish so the 'natural' color of the material is masked. However, the various grinding marks to give the blade a finished look are very similar to a steel blade. If the box did not say ceramic blade I would have assumed a more conventional steel blade. A magnet has not the slightest attraction for this blade.

I don't follow metallurgy as it relates to blades, but am wondering has the ceramic blade evolved to mimic steel (appearance) and are they as brittle now as when they first hit the market.

Thanks in advance from any of the more knowledgeable members for any quick summary comments they can add.

Brittleness has improved with later newer ceramic blades, but i still wouldn't want to drop one on a tiled floor.

I found the edges chip far too easily and they are extremely difficult to resharpen (on diamond stones) without causing further damage.
