hi hogs, i broke my ceramic sharping rod today and need a new one, how about some input on which one you're using on your busse knife.

remember this is not a wanted to buy/sell ad, just a good ceramic sharpener thread.

I have a really wide crock stick with 1" diameter and a wooden handle. I think it might be a chinese made generic one, but I've seen them for sale in a lot of places and it's a lot sturdier than the thin ones. And it works well too.
Let me see if I can find a link. Whatever you do, don't buy the thin one, they snap like a dry twig.

At home I use the Spiderco Tri-angle Sharpmaker
Works like a dream, very easy to handle and you get very sharp blades.
I found especially Infi very easy to sharpen with it.

Been using a Spyderco Sharpmaker lately. Won't put on quite as good of an edge as my whetstones but, it's SO much faster and easier.

I have been using the edge pro and it is great. also comes with a ceramic steel.

tony, which model?
You're getting an edge pro, huh?.........
check out the reviews section, there's lots of info there about these.
I've heard the pro model is the best because of the stand.
But if you're getting one......
HOGS, KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN, IDAHO'S GONNA OPEN THE TROUGH!!!!!
(I've read many times they're the best, but $$$$$)

tony, which model?

Tim: There he is!
King Arthur: Where?
Tim: There!
King Arthur: What? Behind the rabbit?
Tim: It *is* the rabbit!
King Arthur: You silly sod!
Tim: What?
King Arthur: You got us all worked up!
Tim: Well, that's no ordinary rabbit.
King Arthur: Ohh.
Tim: That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on!
Sir Robin: You tit! I soiled my armor I was so scared!
Tim: Look, that rabbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide! It's a killer!
Sir Galahad: Get stuffed!
Tim: He'll do you up a treat, mate.
Sir Galahad: Oh, yeah?
Sir Robin: You manky Scots git!
Tim: I'm warning you!
Sir Robin: What's he do? Nibble your bum?
Tim: He's got huge, sharp... er... He can leap about. Look at the bones!
King Arthur: Go on, Bors. Chop his head off!
Sir Bors: Right! Silly little bleeder. One rabbit stew comin' right up!

Edge pro for me too.... talk about putting a wicked sharp edge on a blade!

Never heard of that model of APEX. They are numbered by kit number 1, 2 or 3. He also makes a mistake saying that he is including the polishing tapes for use on kitchen knives. While the tapes make for supersharp knives they also remove the micro bevels left from using the stones causing the knives to slip or slide across fruits and vegitables instead of cutting into them. if you finish your kitchen knives with the tapes as he suggests not only will it take longer to prep the food but it creates a dangerous situation as the knife skids off the food and goes in an uncontrolled diriction.

Edge pro systems are offered in two series the "Apex" and the "Pro". The kit numbers that your talking about falls under "Apex kits" or "Pro kits".

Read on... http://www.edgeproinc.com/images/apex_or_the_pro.htm

I do somewhat agree about the polishing tapes but I can tell you from first hand experience that my knives that have been polished (using the tapes) have NO difficulty whatsoever slicing fruits and veggies (tomatoes included).

I am familiar with the site. I just never heard of the Apex Edge Pro Avant-Garde model. And the recomendation about not using the tapes comes from Ben. I figure since he makes the system he ought to know what he is talking about.

Edit to add I have had one of his ceramic steels for a while. That is what I usually use to touch up kitchen knives. I ordered a Edgepro Pro 3 kit for Christmas, my brother told me to pick what I wanted. How nice of him. I also got an Apex kit 3 from a friend. I will be keeping the PRO kit as I do alot of woodworking and I can use it for my chisels, plane blades and such.
