i was flipping thorugh the pages of a recent magazine and saw timberline had a ceramic folder model 8010.
anyone ever used/bought/seen/abused one yet.
how much are they because i went to the website and didnt see it listed.
thanks:D.

Can't speak to the Timberline but I have the Boker Plus Anti-MC ceramic folder. Predictably, the trade-off for the sharpness, corrosion resistance, and hardness/edge-holding properties of ceramic is that it's Chippy McGee. Mine chipped on the hard part of a fried plantain. So really it's best suited to cutting up softer food items. Maybe other ceramic folding knives are slightly more durable, but when a knife has such limitations you wonder about its value and usefulness.

i got a yoshi blade out of curiosity. seems well done for what it is. id never cut anything but soft food items with it, it probubly would chip or break if used for any kind of heavy edc stuff. might try it on cardboard . prefer good steel.

I have the same knife as Jesse B. and tested it as an EDC for over 6 months. Just now got a chip in it from slicing a lemon and drawing down on to a maple cutting board. Being ZrO2, I no longer consider it "safe" now that the edge has been compromised.

I will say that it was a great gentleman's blade while it lasted. Very light, fast draw and reasonably sharp (not shaving sharp though). I'm kind of sad, I got quite attached to it over those months but I think i'm going to stick with one of my other vg10/s30v blades for EDC from now on.

Maybe I'll try another ZrO2 blade from a better source. It would be cool if they made something a bit more durable in the ceramic format. Although, I really do like pushing the envelope on sharpness which is something that is a pretty short walk to diminishing returns when it comes to ceramic.

From what I've read you do want to stick with the black ceramic over the white ceramic... Good luck.
