I was just wondering what kind of grit a ceramic rod can be classified as. I would appreciate any feedback.

It would depend on the brand and the surface texturization of the rod.

I have a similar Ceramic rod that I bought years ago; it was unmarked as to the grit... I feel it performs similarly to the Lanksy 1K ceramic yellow hone on the 5 piece (non diamond) sharpening kit they offer.

In terms of the finish produced, most any white ceramic sharpener will be effectively finer than:

  • EF diamond hones (~1200; compare to DMT's EF @ 9µ)
  • 1500-2000 (maybe 3000) grit wet/dry sandpaper (~13-6µ)

It's essentially impossible to get anything meaningful from the stated 'grit' or particle sizes used in sintered ceramics (such as the white ones). As mentioned, the surface finishing of the individual hone is what has the greater impact on how it performs (speed of metal removal, finish left). For perspective, consider the ceramics from Spyderco, which use exactly the same abrasive grit for each of the medium, fine and UF hones (all around 15µ grit size). The binder used for the medium, as well as the surface finish of each of them is what makes them perform as 'medium', 'fine' or 'ultra-fine'.
