Ceramic Rods for sharpening

I own a BBQ Cleaning and repair company and one common product we replace are the ceramic radiants on DCS (Dynamic Cooking Systems) BBQ's. Here is a picture of the rods:
They're 8-9" long and cylindrical. Although they're pricey, I am wondering if they might be good in some form for sharpening? Was thinking of using dowel to hold them in place on a block with a strop on one side of it. Please advise.

I think you should take a block of wood, drill slanted holes to hold the rods, and give it a go. Similar products are made by AG Russell, Spyderco, and others although none use that type of rod.
It wouldn't cost anything to try. At least you'd find out whether the rods are good for sharpening, and how fine of an edge they create.

Exactly what I had in mind. I already get them at cost so I may as well make something of it. I'll give it a go and update as I go. I'm fairly new to sharpening but I have a pretty good idea of how to accomplish the task.

Just look at some of the designs already out there. Take safety into consideration, and decide which angle the rods are to be set at.

Will do. Any advice for where to get stropping leather? I did see a video on how to glue the stropping leather to the block..no big deal there. I am fairly new to sharpening though. I had a used rod (same as the one's I posted above) that I tried to use to sharpen my Delica 4 (zdp-189) and quickly gave up because I couldn't hold the rod well enough to get a good sharpening angle and the rod was definitely not in good condition. I will update this thread in the next few days with my progress. These rods are pretty delicate, but if they work it might be a great asset to people on this forum.
