I need manufacturer recommendations and best place to
purchase. Also does anyone use Cerahones?

C'mon guys I know you're using them! What kind are they
and where are you getting them from?

I just use my sharpmaker rods :D

I do have a cerahone that has a 12" ceramic stick that seems a bit over 1/2" in diameter. It is the smooth variety. It seems to be quite aggresive and a bit much for touch-ups, but I'm sure would be quite effective for removing some metal.

I have tried really cheap ones, like a few dollars at a flea market and there is no significant difference from the high end ones. However it is probable that the QC is low on the cheap ones and I might have just been lucky with the one I used. The Sharpmaker would be a good choice as not only do you get two rod grits (and another two are possible diamond and ultra fine), but you can also used it for many other sharpening chores as it is very versatile.

I too found that, like wine, cost is an unreliable indicator of quality.
