hey there got a sharperning question for u folks. say i use my EDC for light cutting say cutting loose strings, opening mail, cutting the packets of ketchup, u know everyday light work. sharperning is a minimum for me. and i think if im not wrong that the knife becomes blunt over time due to the burrs. this however according to a few of my friends, can be removed with leather (skinning the leather). the question is can i just use the ceremic file to touch up the edge, coz i dont intend to change the angle of it. will this be enough to bring back the edge to its production glory which by the way is shaving sharp?

A fine ceramic stick should work to lightly touch up your edge. You don't need to use any pressure, just try to realign the edge, like you would with a steel.

Spend a couple of minutes carefully stropping it in a strip of good leather imbedded with jewelers rouge after you hit it with the ceramics. That is sharp!!!

ceramic rods are fine for sharpening up a lightly used knife like the one you mentioned.

however,if it will not cut paper, then IMHO you need to sharpen with stones.

The Gatco Tri-Seps is a great little ceramic sharpener, for exactly the use you describe.

It has three sides like a Spyderco Sharpmaker rod, but it's only a few inches long, with a rubber grip at each end. One edge is rounder than the others, and one flat side has a groove for fishhooks or needles or darts.

Gatco also makes the same thing with a diamond coating, for a slightly more aggressive job. I have both, but generally use the ceramic for touch-ups. They are both really inexpensive.
