Just curious does anyone have the certs for Alpha knife supplies L6? Normally I would just call them but phones out for a couple days and Im working on a steel order.. Main thing I'm wondering is if their L6 is like Champalloy with Moly or like Carpenter without..thanks

glad to hear that!.. Ive mostly used Champalloy but this ones certs looks almost the same as crucibles.. Its nice to see it in flats because Ive always had to break down big rounds under the power hammer and press..

With the two various makers of L6 that we see, it's easy to get mixed up.
Is This what we want?

Moly = Champalloy=Crucible= almost air hardening= what we want?

No Moly= Carpenter= tricker= Not as great?

If I'm completely wrong, please correct me.

I want to try it, and I was excited seeing Alpha carry it, I just wanna make sure That's the one I hear praise for.

Thanks, again.

Im use to using crucibles L6(and some moly L6 Also use to have, I think it was made by Republic) but Carpenter is good steel too, just different.. I do personally think that the 0.3% Molybdenum adds some toughness and hardenability over L6 without.. It will air harden to a good degree. You can bring a piece to 1500 and just lay it on the work bench and it will hit 60rc with no quench....
Crucible lists its charpy toughness at around 43 pounds at 60-62rc.. L6 with Moly has everything 8670 has , just more of it.. It can be a bit of a pain to work with but I like it... I wont lie, Im sure some of its nostalgia too...

I did some testing a few months back on alphas L6. It seems like some good tough steel. I will be making a few hunters in it soon enough.

Not quite as tough as 8670. But in my uses, it seems to hold a better edge. More testing needs to be done on my end. Still extremely tough though
