Well, I finally got the pictures from my Cetan Tanto kit up on the web! It isn't finished yet, and there are some typos and stuff, but I rushed to get them up as soon as possible! The link is http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/Lab/1298/cetan.html and there are currently two pages done (I broke the pics up or it would take too long to view). Let me know what ya think!

good job, I'm going to get one of these kits after I pay for the two knives I've got on order with Rob already! I think your tutorial will help me avoid the many potential pitfalls inherent in this kind of project.
PS I agree about the way the tanto lines being softer makes it look more like the original tanto design.

Good work, Chiro75! I, too, have used maroon linen micarta and like it a lot. About the drill press: I need to get one! Using a hand drill is tough work! I drilled three 1/2inch holes through 1/8inch ATS-34 last night and it took and hour. Rob will be getting that blade and three others shortly for ht.

Keep at it!

Chiro75,

I also wanted to suggest a method for keeping those bevel edges sharp. Tape some sandpaper to a flat surface. I used the formica counter top in the kitchen (wife was a little uneasy about that). Work each surface, being careful to not round off the edge between the different planes. It worked well for me on a tanto I just did.

Lots a luck.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! I should have the tutorial done tonight, if all goes as planned. As far as keeping the bevels sharp, Rob eluded to that in his instructions. I tend to like flowing lines better, though, so I opted not to use a sanding block rather by accident, but I was happy with the results all the same! I should have the tutorial done soon, so please read it and input anything you may feel is erroneous...
Steve
