CF inlays Mnandi?

Hey everyone,
This is my first post to the CRK forum, just yesterday I picked up my first one a raindrop Damascus mnandi with cocobolo inlays.
I love the knife but I'm not the biggest fan of wood inlays. What I really want to do is replace the wood with a polished carbonfber inlay. Has any of you ever seen this done or know of anyone that could do it?
Thanks in advance,
Anthony

I don't have a CRK, not rich, but that idea does not sound like a great one to me.

Maybe send it back for replacement with CF, or trade it to someones for the same?

Just my 2 cents worth.

CRK does not offer carbon fiber inlays with the mnandi, or I would have one because I think it is a great idea!! I am currently searching for a customizer willing to take the project on.

There is at least one carbonfiber Mnandi out there in the world. ;)

Hand fitting inlays on a Mnandi is a large nightmare and frankly I fully understand why people don't do it more often. I have done a few Mnandis and would probably have to be kidnapped and made to work at gun point or at least held to ransom in some way to do any more. :D

Please excuse the shockingly bad phone pics. :foot:

That thing is slick. I have a friend who's dad is a jewler he's pretty confident he can do it but he's not a knife guy so I worry.
I really want to use either a marble or unidirectional cf I think it would look amazing.

The love for wood comes with use i think.
Wood is able to take a lot. Think of traditional hunting rifles.
If cared for, the wood inlays should outlast you. ;)

@ Haze: Very nice. Do you have a picture of the locking side? TIA

I have no doubt that it's durable I just don't like the way it looks, and I'd just prefure a more modern material I guess.

That is the most beautiful knife I've ever seen. Wow. Just wow.

I really like this marbled style of carbon fiber, the traditional square weave never appealed to me.

Sure, here you go :).......

It is indeed a new style pivot with the old style clip, if anyone is wondering. The carbonfiber is also regular twill weave CF, it's just the shaping of the inlay gives it the random looking pattern. I much prefer that random look to the standard weave. :)

Where have you been all of my life? I knew a CF Mnandi would look killer.

Maybe we need to flood BHQ and KA with requests to make this happen. Who's with me?

How do you safely remove the existing inlays? I was thinking of heating the insides of the titanium? I'm pretty sure I read that they are fastened with double sided tape right.

I don't know if possible but I will ask CRK if possible to have one without inlay :) easier and maybe cheaper

Now that is a great idea basetta! Then you also aren't wasting the wood inlay to replace it

Haze, can we get pic of your all ti inlay Mnandi too? That one is my absolute favorite.

Here it is hanging out with some Ti and a few of its other mates. :p

The wood inlays can be removed with out being destroyed and can be put back on the knife at any time. CRK will not send you out a blank Mnandi though, you will have to go for the standard wood and have it changed if you want Ti, CF or micarta inlays. :)
