CF/S90V Manix II, to carry or not to carry?

Just got this folder, I really couldn't pass it up.

Its very light (but big), very sharp and very sexy. This is the first folder I've bought that I have qualms about using (because if the limited run), but that I really want to carry.

What do I do? Can't afford a second one right now.

Carry it and use it. You will regret later if you will not enjoy this excellent folder that only few of us managed to get.

I bought a pair intending to use one and another as a spare which I'd use if the first became unusable or lost. Heard a saying that owning three is the best. One to use, one to lose, one to keep. Perhaps I should get one more. :D

Use it or not? I can't answer that.

Unless knives get legally restricted there will probably be something even nicer in a year or so and unless disaster strikes you will probably have more money then. So not using it out of fear becomes a waste of time and money.

If you are planning to become a collector or to resell it for a profit, even light use is a bad idea.

I was having the same dilemma, I wasn't sure if I was going to like the Manix2 in an EDC role. It's going to be very difficult to bump the Paramilitary out of that spot.

So instead of EDCing the S90v Manix2 for trial reasons, I went ahead and bought a 154CM Manix2 that I plan on EDCing for a bit.

I'll safequeen the S90v for now, after all they only made 400.

Really?? What if Sal produces 400 Para's with S90V, carbon fiber and SIX washers?? I doubt even you could resist then!:p

Oh and Monsterdog, my S90V Manix 2 is due to arrive TODAY!:D and it is going straight into my pocket.

I think you have made the right decision to use the knife, it would be what Eric and Sal would have wanted.

I bought one, and have absolutely zero reservations about putting it in my pocket to carry and use. If I want to invest money I'll put it in mutual funds. Carry it, use it, I'm more than willing to bet that after 5 years it'll still be in relatively good condition and you'd still be able to get what you paid for it. I've got a BM 552M2-600 that is lightly carried and used- it would easily bring the original selling price, likely a lot more. Barring some fairly significant circumstances, I'll likely not ever sell either one.

Use it ! :D:thumbup:

Carry it, use it, appreciate it. You can only do them in that order.

This is why everyone should have at least one really nice, expensive custom. Then all of your $200 production knives can become beaters!

If it were me, I'd carry it. I bought a Kershaw Shallot in 110V and intended to keep it as an investment of some sort. But I realized that for $80 I got a helluva cheap thrill everytime I used it, as opposed to taking it out of the box every month to play with it. So in the pocket it went, and it is now getting a nice burnish on all the edges of the handle and screws. Looks better than ever!

I'll definitely carry this thing, you're all right of course. I just wanted "permission" to do so ;)

I do have a question for anyone with a Manix II (or any caged ball lock): I noticed there is a lot of blade play when the knife is closed, its not there in the open position. Trying to tighten the pivot didn't help. Is this normal?

mine has "some" play when closed but does not contact either liner and does not move on it's own. i have to apply pressure to induce it
