What do you guys prefer for a medium sized blade. Would you prefer the CG ASH1 or the sarsquatch. I know the ASH is like .320 thick, but I dont know if that would be a pro or con in a smaller blade used for camping. So, what say you and why. Thanks

BTW, is the ASH a but heavy knife or balanced well. Thanks again

I'd pick the CG ASH1 ,,,,,,,,, Hands down. Yes it is a heavy blade but there is also a Skinny ASH1 , same shape but @ .22 a little more manageable for lighter tasks. Either way,,,,,,, the Sarsquatch is the most butt ugly Busse I've ever seen,,,, IMHO. I guess my opinion is a little one sided in the visual effect of the two choices . I'd pick the Skinny ASH1 over the Sarsquatch too ,,,,,,,,,,,,, same thickness. Lifes to short to carry an ugly blade,,,,lol

I'd go with the ASH1 for sure. i like em thick and heavy, and the SAR designs just don't do anything for me.

The Ash left a blister on my hand when I chopped with it, either way they are both easy to find on the exchange right now.

The CG ASH-1 is better than the skinny or LE's mainly because the extra heft gives you some chopping ability in a compact package. Not much but some. The thinner ones are great but light and neutral feeling. It would be like chopping with a Chef's knife.

The SARSquatch is a freaking outstanding blade. It's odd looking to some but a bunch of us SAR nerds and others gave a lot of input to Jerry and he pulled through on those requests BIG TIME. Maybe it is the Platypus of the Busse line but I can hardly put mine down. Great ergonomics (it might edge the ASH handle out as most comfortable. It definitely gives you more grip options. The ASH handle tells YOU how it is to be held but it is so right in it's demands you just go along with it) and surprisingly forward balanced for chopping (although I haven't chopped with mine yet, I hear great reports).

For me the solution was BOTH.

Dbltap, you bought my FFBM and I know you have been actively searching for the right stuff. We might be able to work out a one man pass around with each of these. I think someone out your way pinged you but maybe he doesn't have these blades.

I might even get these two out to the sticks with some of the other INFI freaks who hang out here tomorrow... River-8, 360Joules, and others. If I can do some testing they might be able to post pics and a vid or something. Will see...

Thanks Dunner, and BTW, the FFBM is a beast. I did a trade that got me the Sarsquatch, as well as a fat game warden, and a CG FBM. I was just trying to see if I should trade the SAR I have for another mid size Busse with another guy.

I ended up doing the trade, the SAR is just to damn ugly to keep in the house. HAHAHA

I think the ASH will fit my needs for a strong mid size knife. We can do a one man pass around, shoot me an e mail when you can.

The Sarsquatch isn't ugly, the Pork Belly Skinner is. The Sarsquatch is my choice, an awesome all arounder. The skinny Ash1 would be a good choice, the cg Ash1... not even close, too many problems with it for me too recommend it.

Sarsquatch and Banned Skinny Ash1... the Sarsquatch is currently with Ban, for satin, zero edge and swedge reduction. I can't wait to get it back.

Greg, what problems are you talking about. Feel free to e mail me if you dont want to post it here.

Too heavy for its size (own good), and it pinches my pinky when chopping, so much so I have to pull my swings when chopping. The only two advantages the Ash1 has when compared to the Sarsquatch... IMO... is lateral strength and it's ability to split wood slightly faster than a Sarsquatch. The Sarsquatch owns every other category IMO.:D:foot::foot:
