CG ASHBM handle thickness question

How thick is the handle at the center tube fastener? I once had a CS FBM with magnum G10 scales, and it was just too thick for my hand. Eventually I will get the new SHBM CG, but am wondering about the handle thickness. From a post in the Sale forum, the thickness of the hand-shaped micarta is "right around 1 inch".

Anybody else with calipers? How thick is the handle with the standard micarta scales?

Here are some pics that may help. This is the hand shaped ASHBM. The first one is right at the center tube, it is around 1 inch thick. It then tapers on either side to about .8".

I have small hands too and I specifically requested these be hand shaped thin. :)

Just noticed your comment. 1" does not strike me as thin; how does it feel in hand? I don't like that golf ball feeling you get with some Busse handles. Of course, one can always sand the scales down to taste.

Feels good to me, better than some of the mag handles I've had in the past. Very nicely contoured. I think they could be sanded down even thinner if one wanted to.

my 2c regarding your question. I have Large size hand and the handle fits perfect, if it was a bit beefier it would be too much for me, but right now it is exactly perfect.

OK, so we have:

Hand shaped micarta, 1.024"

G10 1.035"

standard micarta ?????

There must be someone out there with standard scales. Can you please measure them for us? You don't have to post a pic.

I know the feeling you refer to. These feel completely different to the fat fusion handles. The hand shaped micarta feels great!

Hand smoothed black micarta ASHBM-LE -- 1.01" at the thickest point in the center. One of the best feeling Busses I've ever owned ... and I've had most of them since the BATAC. My hands are pretty small. The knife is perfect. Future Busse classic -- couldn't be happier. Thanks to all at Busse -- Lexi, Pokey, Garth, Beef, Jerry! CG on the way.

Hand smoothed black micarta ASHBM-CG (Sage) came today. The handle is a touch thicker at its thickest point in the palm swell (1.024") than the LE that came yesterday (1.012"). Both are beyond great -- Home Run Jerry, Garth, Lexi, Pokey, etc.!! Pics to follow ;-)

Eric, good pic, thanks. Now please get the calipers and measure the thickness of the handle at the center fastener. Standard micarta scales is the one number that we don't have yet.

.24 stripped cgfbm with standard machined micarta-.726

.25 coated nmfbm with handshaped g10 mags-1"

.269 satin sos fbm with machined mags-.914

.317 coated ashbm with machined micarta mags - 1.024

There we go, thanks!

So the machine cut scales on the ASHBM are the same thickness as the hand shaped at 1.024". Is there an option of standard vs magnum? Don't see it on the order page. OTOH, hand-shaped is not shown either, but you can order it.

I'll have to measure some other knives, too. My Ban Anorexic FBM with standard snakeskin is on the skinny side, while the CG NMFBM (0.25) and Easton Show CS Satin HHFSH with hand-shaped micarta both feel good. The fat CS FBM mentioned above was something like 1.1" IIRC, and had the golf ball thing going on.

My hands are medium sized and the ASHBMCG feels Great...definitely not too big. I whacked the heck out of some pressure treated 2x4s the other night (yes drunk) to compare it to the new BR Bravo III. The BM felt awesome, very comfy. THe Bravo III also did great btw, but too slippery. The CNC cut handle pattern of the ASHBM adds just the right amount of friction without making it uncomfortable. I've recently become a convert to canvas micarta (vs. G10)...perfect knife handle material.
