CGFBM for the bad times

I have always loved the CGFBM. I had one years ago with standard grips but sold it to a mate. Always regretted it, but really wanted the mags. Had several FFBMs and LEs, even the ganza CG with a bowie shape, but while good, just didnt fill the void of the original CGFBM.

The other day I was able to acquire a CGFBM from a mate. It was well worn with chips in the edge and a crack in the micarta. Busse ofcourse offered to repair the grip under warranty but I decided to fix it myself, however i may send it back one day for black g10 and red liners. Brian from ZBW redid the edge for me. I filled the micarta crack with expanding tarzan grip glue. I then smoothed over most of the micarta. I then used several coats of ferric to darken the blade (it had been stripped by the previous owner) and created a bit of a psuedo hamon. Finally a few passes through the Worksharp to repolish the edge. Just shows that old Busse's never die. There are many CGFBMs, but this one is mine. Hope you like it.

Love it!!!

Had one that I let go some time ago as well... regretted it ever since.

BTW: Nice work on that 'Warchild' would love some additional info.

Ahhh--truly a thing of beauty. I love seeing a user that's kept in good shape--that knife really has character.

Thanks guys,

Maddman, those are all gone mate but send me an email. I don't want to spam Jerry's board with my stuff but thanks for the compliment :). I collect knives from many different manufacturers and custom makers also.

Now I need a hellraiser with mags, competition grade would be perfect!

CGFBM is one of my favorite mistress also. That or the bushwacker. Yours looks great!!

Awesome FBM well loved and into a new home....

Looks great, love to see a user CGFBM, as it is one of my faves, as well.

Tell us more about the ferric (chloride?) treatment. How strong was it? Did the pseudo-hamon thing just happen, or was that something you tried for? I stripped mine a few months ago and buffed it with a wire wheel and ScotchBrite, but might try for some patina.

THAT turned out REALLY Good Man!!! It looks like it has been around forever and could tell some tales!

Nice Job!

Resinguy - basically it had been stripped to baremetal. Ferric doesnt coat well on the first go. Apply again after a minute and get an even coat. leave for five minutes. Wipe off. Rub by hand with a scotchbrite pad to rough it up. Blade is already a bit grey. Ferric now sticks well on next application so you can place selectively to make an artificial hamon. Use a thick coat. Come back in an hour. Ferric is almost dried out. Wipe down. Rub with scotchbrite to take off sticky residue. Then rub with wd40 and a cloth and it will smooth out. Repeat the other side. Finished :)

My influence on this is definitely John from Dervish also. He does psuedo hamons with his gunkote/cerakote and does a lot similar steampunk/armageddon type stuff.

looks nice.
The scales in the pic have almost a carbon fiber look.

Thanks. Probably won't try for a hamon look, but maybe just a patina. So is it a paste of ferric chloride? Or if not trying for the hamon, then just soak in a strong solution?

Looks great mate...!!! The FBM is the last of my "must haves" (as opposed to "wants") from the out of production Busses :) :) I have missed a couple out here in aus and a couple on the BF Ex as well.... :)
