CGFBM grooves

Hi.

Here's my striped/gunblued CGFBM. Can you tell me what's the purpose of theses grooves? For the weight?

Thanks.

They keep the knife from binding when chopping and they help with weight reduction and strength.

They reduce weight and they help keep strength for lateral pressure:cool:

They're intended to reduce drag and friction when hammering into wood or slicing and dicing. Corregated Bevel Technology, I've not seen any back to back reviews on the performance vs. a standard model. Nice work on that one. Any chance we could see the whole beast?

And they still work great with most of them sanded off!

I love the look of natural stripped INFI. It just looks so, natural.....and amazing....

Damn that's hot! If you're feeling generous my address is:
51 E Zimmerman..... :)

This looks like an answered question. I don't want to high jack the thread, but I had a related question.

Did any blades with CBT came in satin or DC finish from the factory? I've seen some competition finish CBT blades, but no pictures of satin or DC.

BTW that a nice looking CGFBM you got there.

I still think the CBT "grooves"
are to stop the cheese from sticking to the blade
when you slice it.

I don't mean to but in either, but from my readings, CGFBM mean Combat Grade Fusion Battle Mistress... So does the Combat Grade mean it would have had the grooves? I thought Combat Grade just meant it was a standard model...

Sorry, I'm still new and am still working on sorting all the model designations :(

Typically the CG *Combat Grade* designation means it is the coated version of the knife. With the CGFBM not only were they all coated but they all came with the CBT grooves. FBMs without the CBTs are not called CGFBMs even if they are in the traditional combat grade coated version. Clear? :D

Nice job on that strip and blue. I don't think the blue is necessary for corrosion resistance, but it sure does look great!

The CBT are specifically designed to snort Infi dust lines on.

I have heard they are for reducing drag and binding when chopping, and lighten the blade without reducing lateral strength too much.

I for one, think they just simply look awesome. Probably my favorite fusion handled BM design. The thickness is right on. Light enough for packing, thin enough for speed and longer chopping, and still plenty of mass for chopping hard and lateral strength. (all of this is of course pure BS as I have not used one, but it is what I think about them!).

Awesomeness, that's what they're for.

somebody here has an HR which i believe was factory satin, but that's the only one with CBT that i've ever seen

this is all quite true.

I find that the CBTs do help with binding when chopping into a larger log. The Fat Flats may look better but the CGFBM is my fave.
