Hey all, picked this FBM up on the exchange a few days ago with thoughts of it becoming a new project of mine. I've got a few other projects going on, ones that I probably should finish before I started this, but oh well.

What I had in mind for this FBM was to make it a mix between a couple of my favorite knives. I won't say what knives I'm talking about at the moment, but in the end I'll show you some shots of my favorite knives and hopefully you'll see the resemblance.

I totally forgot to snap a couple of pics before the mods began, but the knife started out as a run-of-the-mill CGFBM with Urban Gray coating and standard black micarta handles.

Yay! My FBM with the pommel mod won't be the only one :D The mod really does improve the feel of the FBM for my hand. Plus It's fun to mod your gear to suit your or needs :)

I knew you would like this mod, isn't it coined the "River-8 Butt Mod" anyways? :D.

Oh, and I added more pictures to the OP. Got home just in time to snap some pictures before the sun set.

The "River-8 Butt Mod" is really extra. I want to keep my actual CGFBM as it is because it's just perfect for me, but one day I will try this mod on another mistress :

An INFI seax would be pretty cool. I would get one. After the BOSS Mistress, of course ;)

Look'in good nice mod kind of old school sh type butt. Nothing like a nice round butt. :D

Couldn't sleep tonight so I figured I might as well get something done continued on to Stage 2 of my process...modifying the handle area. I already love the feel of the Fusion handle, but would appreciate a little more security when chopping so I'm gonna add a finger-notch similar to the one on a Ratweiler (and a whole bunch of other Rats). It'll involve a fair amount of work so I think this will probably take more than a couple of weeks to finish. After the finger-notch is added, I'm gonna slap some carbon fiber scales secured with 1/4" stainless pins on this puppy. It should look pretty neat. I still have to order some materials but I'm gonna see how far I can get this weekend while still finding time for some other obligations I need to fill.

The following pictures show the process of taking the scales off. I drilled them out with an 11/16" bit, which was simple enough. Someone had written "IN" on the inside surfaces of both scales...hmmm, perhaps someone at the shop was drinking at the time they were made and was a little confused as to what side was "in" and what side was "out" :p. I taped the edge up with a thick layer of masking tape to avoid any nasty accidents (I've already chopped my left shin down to the bone with my NMFBM...don't need any more scars). I also made sure to clamp the knife down in such a way as to have the spine of the knife hit me if it somehow managed to get out of the bite of the two c-clamps I secured it with.

Next up is a strip-job, but I used the last of my stripper a week or two ago and will need to pick some up tomorrow. This weekend the plan is to have the notch roughed out and ready for final shaping by next weekend. Hopefully I will have the carbon fiber by then and can get crackin' on them scales.
