Chain, cord, or thong?

Just wondering: if you use your Izula as a neck knife, do you wear it on a cord, chain, or thong?

I was once warned to use a bead chain, like a dog-tag chain, so that it would break if it got snagged or pulled (instead of serving as an inadvertent garotte). But I find I prefer a leather thong--just feels more comfortable.

What do y'all use?

I have heard alot of people say not to use paracord/leather/whatever because of the possibility of getting snagged. If that does happen, you do have a knife with you to cut it off.........with that said, I prefer paracord with neck knives. you can use it if you need to and replace it when you get home.

You can get breakaway paracord/leather ends and have the best of both.

What are some ideas for making break-away ends with paracord? I use a blaze orange paracord for my izula, but would like a break-away on it. What would be safe yet secure so I don't lose my knife?

I've seen magnetic links that would work nicely with paracord. Don't know where you get 'em though.

I can't stand those ball chains, I got one tangled in my beard once and won't use them anymore.

Para-cord is my main necker hanger!!!

i make a little chain maille from time to time, it makes a nice comfy neck chain, and a handy fistpack if needed. i have one on a cs spike. but there's not really a break away option for it. magnets might work. i'll have to 'speriment.

I prefer the thong approach. The material is usually sturdy through excited physical use, but can easily be separated during the more strenuous exertion. Gripping the material while exerting even and balanced pressure is well within structural limitations. The silken materials can even be considered mandatory while posing for posterity. Once familiarity is established by the user, thongish attire is easily manipulated for beneficial use. Sturdy bindings such as multi-strand cord or cable should be reserved for the most experienced master. Leather and coiled steel would be the gateway materials for the higher level operatives. YMMV.

You could always strip the inside of the paracord and thread a ball chain thru. I had a setup like that for a while.

Paracord that has a breakaway attachment to it.

My benchmade necker essentially had pretty much a thick shoelace type cord with the plastic ends, and the ends fit into a tight flexible rubber tubing.

You know you could buy some of those really small earth magnets and seal them into the ends of some paracord, I haven't tried it but it just seemed like something to try. Not too fond of neck carry. I would be interested to see it if someone does it and know how it works out.

I still go with dog tag chain.

I found that a black leather or paracord necklace attracts too much attention. I had a lot of people ask me what I was wearing around my neck because the cord and leather was so visible. no one notices the chain. Plus my GF said it looked sexy on me. I dont know why.

went the same route as Stornstaff - they are bugger to get over here but with my custom sheath it has just enough retention to allow me to one hand draw without breaking

hollowing out the para cord and running a bead chain works really well. I carry the Izula that way almost everyday. Snakedoc called it first and I'm just adding a +1.

how abut using paracord, but melt the ends together just a bit, so if alot of stress was applied, The partial melt would break?

I've done that with other neckers, and if done right it works great. Holds enough for you to draw the knife, but any serious weight, like your neck! and it will break.

Damn. Read the subject line and thought it was another girly thread with photos! :D
