I met with an old friend the other nite that was in town from across the state. He showed me a knife he had made primarily from a chainbar from a chainsaw. Looked really nice,--anybody have any idea what kind of carbon steel it is? I don't have a picture to post as he is already gone- Just askin' a generic question. (where is Jonesy when you need him?)

If I remember right, 1095 is fairly common. This question has come up a few times and I think it came down to knowing the brand of bar and contacting the manufacturer.The general consensus seemed to be that most of them made good knives though.
