(did I spell that right)

is there a standard size for the chainipure and how much do the differ from the chitlangi?

anyone have pics of both to compare?

"is there a standard size for the chainipure and how much do the differ from the chitlangi?"

Mott IIRC the Chainpuri(s) are around 18 inches, but I wouldn't swear to it. Like the rest of the models you can probably get them in any size you want.:)
The biggest difference is the plain versus dui chiarra blade.
And the choice between a fullered (GS), double fullered (Chitlangi) or plain blade (Chainpuri) is a no brainer for me.
I love fullers!!!! Not just for the looks, but also the strength the fuller or fullers give a blade.
It's like comparing a flat piece of steel and an I-Beam. The I-Beam is many many times stronger with not a lot of additional weight if any at all.:D

What's IIRC? :(

Is there a formal name for these styles of blades? Plain, Single fuller, double fuller?

I think Double Fuller blades are usually called Dui Chirra Blades. But I could be wrong. Yvsa or Uncle or Rusty would be able to tell you exactly what they are called formally.. Btw, would Tin Chirra be a Blade with Three fullers?

That, and "namaste" are all I remember from a Basic Nepali site I found, and then promptly lost.

IIRC= If I Remember (or Recall) Correctly.

Arvind and Walosi are both correct. :)

.. on Howard's FAQ site makes me wonder if I have a Tin Chirra UBE. Sanu went his own way on my 19.5" (it was his design, and he's still working on it), and I only lately discovered that the edge bevel is fullered. Although it is shallower than the other two, it is very evenly done, and runs the length of the edge. The smaller UBE has a flat edge bevel.

The smaller has the carved handle, and the big one has the great piece of burl, so there is no way I'd mess with that, just to find out, but I believe the larger knife may not weigh any more than the smaller one, given the thinner spine and the fullers. The burl is very likely the biggest part of the weight difference.

I think Chainpuri is the proper spelling. It means coming from or hails from Chainpur. Just like Nepali means coming from or hails from Nepal. And you'll see the knife in all sizes.
