Earlier this year, I picked up an absolutely beautiful 19 inch 19.3 ounce bone handled chainpuri as one of Uncle Bill's deals of the day. I luckily decided on an extra expense by taking a chance and sending it directly to Survival Sheath Systems from HI for a kydex shoulder sheath to be made for it. This turned out to be a great decision. When it eventually arrived downunder, I thought I had the perfect khukuri and I did. It was so light, so beautiful, so well balanced. Kumar did a magnificent job (these chainpuries appeal to me more than the kobra shape). Added to this, I had the choice of two ways to carry it - an excellent belt sheath from HI and an excellent kydex shoulder sheath from Survival Sheath Systems - what a khukuri system.

So impressive was this khukuri, that when Yangdu offered another Chainpuri sale a few weeks ago, it was easy to do something I have never done before. I have been buying khukuries for a couple of years now and do not own two of same length and style of khukuri in my reasonably large collection. I have bought two of the same length and style before but only when I intended to give one away as a present, never to keep both. I simply never before had the urge to own two khukuries of the same style and length. That was until I bought one of Kumar's Chainpuries. These Chainpuries are just so outstanding. I couldn't resist the temptation, I went ahead and ordered another 19 inch Chainpuri at Yangdu's sale, but this time with a wooden grip.

Well it has arrived. I reckon I must be in khukuri heaven because this one is simply amazing - and even that is an understatement. In every way to my naked eye it is an almost exact replica of the first. It's exactly the same overall length and also made by Kumar. The only difference is that the grip is a little shorter but still wonderfully comfortable. The two Chainpuries are so identical that each fits the sheath of the other, and luckily for me, they both fit the kydex sheath. So I now have a total Chainpuri system of 2 Chainpuries (one horn and one wood handled), 2 belt sheaths, and a shoulder kydex sheath that fits both.

But that wasn't the only great thing I found with the wood handled Chainpuri. It weighs only an unbelievable 16.8 ounces. I can't for the life of me work out why it is so light. To the naked eye, the two are almost identical twins, except one a ravishing brunette, the other a brown haired beauty. Just like the first, The wooden handled Chainpuri is beautiful to look at, beautiful to hold, and so well balanced, but oh so feather light to swing. I'm in Chainpuri heaven. :D

One inch/one ounce. And 17 inches and 14 ounces is even better. Amazing what less than an ounce per inch will let you do and feel.

Never mind - just a half-cracked mind wandering aimlessly - next thing he'll say is he thinks inanimate objects have powers of their own. Naah, all a figment of imagination... Riiiight!

Decompensating. That's bad. Probably time to go to the desert and fire some .41 mag.

Mr. Jones. Do you happen to have any pics of the sheath? I would like to see them if you do. I have been interested in one of the shoulder sheaths from Survival Sheath Systems and would like to see the set up. You can email them to me and I will post them if needed. Thanks Mark

Please don't forget giving Terry Sisco a look also.

I plan on a sheath from him someday.

Mark, I don't have a photo (I'll have to buy a digital camera one day) at the moment but it is very similar in style to Terry Sisco's quick draw sheath in that the khukuri in both is drawn to some extent through the side of the sheath. I have one of Terry's for a 16.5 inch World War II. Robert from Survival Sheath Systems and Terry make excellent sheaths. It comes down to whether you prefer kydex or leather. Both Robert and Terry show pictures on their websites.

Munk, do you know if Terry is taking orders again? I know a little while back he had so many orders that he had stopped taking more for a time. I would eventually like to get one of Terry's baldric style sheaths.
