I just purchased the Chainpuri Khukuri from Caninpur and wanted to know if anyone had any information on this model?

The kukri you bought is not made by HI but has gone through HI's quality selection process.

The chainpuri kukri is like a cross between the sirupate and chitlangi. More a fighter than a chopper.

Perhaps if you give some photos of it? Then people might help you give more information.

That is one of my first Khuks that I purchased here. It is a "Fair Trade" blade made in a town called Chainpur. It is a unique style in that it is similar to the Sirupati or other of the longer thinner blades that seem to be made for fighting, it is slim and speedy and flows through the 32 sword forms of tai chi balanced and smoothly and it has a closed cho. (dove's eye) p.s. BE VERY CAREFUL of the brass point on the end of the sheath the dang thing is SHARP or as a vexed cartoon character would say "#^$&$ it's %&^*% sharp"
I learned the hard way and poked a good sized hole in my side. The blades are not made at the HI forge so do not show a kami mark, but are hand picked to be of high quality. The worked wooden sheaths are additionally things of beauty in themselves and make a very nice presentation piece, though I would discuss with Pugs getting a leather sheath made if you want to take one to the field to work with or as a weapon as the wood is not very accomodating.

Thanks for the information. I now need to get a 18 inch Chitlangi.

Shav, you can knock down the sharp brass tip with a few swipes of a file if you feel so inclined.

Lol, Thanks Philllll. I thought about that but then decided to just retire the wooden sheath for when it is hanging on the wall, and use a leather one when I take it to use. Might have to discuss with Pugs about getting a nice combat style sheath made, Something that allows it to hang low on the thigh with a breakfront so it pulls straight forward and out like drawing a pistol from a western rig but without as much upward motion to clear the sheath LOL. Though that cantina thread about shoulder holsters... well... hmmm....

my wife was cutting things in the garden with her 15 inch chainpuri 8 months pregnant yesterday..i kept asking her how she liked it, all i got was it was perfect lol...the top part of the handle gets me a bit when i swing it, but it fits her well...i want to get her a leather sheath she can just swing it over her shoulder

Which just goes to show no one Kuhk is perfect for everyone and every task but good to hear that particular one is perfect for her and the tasks she uses it for. Different swing pattern, hand size, arm length all that and much more mean that it is sort of like everything else in life... there is no such thing as 1 size fits all, you CAN force 1 size is acceptable for most but that is about the farthest you can go. I for one am glad HI has lots of choices so I can find the ones that fit me best for each task. The wood sheath is just too pretty to mess up so I will save it and look into a leather sheath for when I plan to use it.
