Chainring bolts for lanyard holes?

I'm thinking about using something like a chainring bolt as a fastener on a knife, to double as a lanyard hole. What I'm thinking is similar to the hollow bolts on some Spydercos' lanyard holes. Has anyone here done this? If so, what sizes and styles of chainring bolts work well for this and have a big enough hole to get paracord through easily?

Other fastener suggestions to accomplish the same effect would be great as well, of course.

Hey I like that idea! Kinda like a hollow corby bolt, I'm guessing you would need to use a double ring sized bolt as a single speed bolt would probably be to short. Most people just use hollow tube that is either flaired or chamfered and epoxied in place. I've seen people use arrow shafts and other small diameter tubing they had on hand instead of buying tubing.

I am using the male side of a chain ring bolt as a pommel bolt, the inside was just the right size to tap for my threaded rod.

E-thirteen bash rings come with a longer bolt that may be long enough to use the way you want, and i may have a couple kicking around here if you want to try them out. can't remember the dimensions off hand but when i find them I will post up.

Found them, when fully threaded together the space between the insides of the heads is 0.55" overall length is 0.697" hole size would need to be about 0.39". they can be threaded out to about 1" in total length. the use a 5mm hex key to tighten. I have 4 pairs, thats 4 female and 4 male bolts, yours if you want them. Oh yeah they are black, you can get them in chrome, but I don't have any of those right now.

Unky, good point about the E-thirteen guards/bolts. I think I have one in my stash somewhere from the last crank upgrade for the DH bike. I am going to have to try them. I also found a couple of titanium r. Derailleur pivot bolts that are even bigger yet but don't have a female counterpart and should work well also.

Gomipile, good idea you have here! I haven't thought of using bike parts for knife making, but I am still very new to knife making.
