Got the idea from my Viking pendant whetstone. Took a scrap piece of a metal cutting file, gave the ends rounded off corners, smoothed the edges, and carefully burnt the temper from one end with a torch so I could drill a thong hole in it. What I wound up with is a 2 3/4" long "Pendant Chakma", with one edge left kind of rough for use as a fire striker, and the other glass smooth for use as a chakma. Neat. I'll be lighting an old wood stove with it this weekend out at camp, if I can get my turkey laden belly up off the couch.  :D

While I'm at it, HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!

Sarge-- excellent idea. It could probably be paired to good effect with the Viking whetstone. Have you tried a chakma on knives besides khukuris? How does it work?

My goodness Josh, you haven't? Yvsa has made the sage observation more than once that while khukuris may seem exotic, they're still just knives, and what works on one knife will surely work on another.
You can use a good chakma to touch up any knife's edge, the only limitation being that the chakma must be harder than the edge being burnished to do a good job. Wanna impress your friends? Have 'em pull out one of their kitchen knives, give it a few good strokes with your chakma, and you'll both be surprised at the results. They're awesome, and have significantly reduced the amount of time I spend sharpening knives.

Thanks Uncle Bill,
Being a single guy I get invited to the homes of friends on Thanksgiving. This year I've got no less than three invitations, and I might just visit 'em all out of courtesy, if only my belly can handle it!
