I was wondering if I could use himalayan imports chakma on my esee junglas , it is supposed to be 57 to 58 rc hardness. I didn't know if it would work, any help or somebody has tried this please let me know

With any hard non-abrasive object, you can steel metal softer than itself. Since the range you mentioned is pretty typical for a kukri sweet spot, sometimes even harder, if the chakma is properly hardened, there's no reason it wouldn't work.

It will work fine. I have a couple blades made by that maker. They use simple 1095 through hardened steel. Himalyan Imports chakma is much harder and will clean up the edge just fine. Be careful because that brand uses a simple V edge opposed to HI's superior convex edge. A simple hand sharpener will handle a V edge easy. They make millions of the due to the cheap and simple V edge dominating the world. You can use any standard knife sharpener on your eese but you can't use a simple sharpener on a convex edge without ruining the profile.

I find the simple $5 pocket sharpeners work just fine on V edges as long as they have ceramic rods molded into the perfect angle.

I much prefer HI's convex style with a good strop for upkeep. This really belongs in the Cantina seeing other brands have been mentioned

The purpose of the chakma is to "straighten out" irregularities or "waviness" on the sharp edge due to chopping. The chakma is not functioning as a file or removing steel from the edge. Therefore, the chakma doesn't really have to be harder than the steel of the blade. Even if the chakma steel is softer, it probably can work as a "straightener."

In any case, the differentially hardened edges of HI blades are probably as hard or harder than your esee junglas.

thanks for replys I emailed himilayan imports they said 56rc I didn't think that was right but you think they would know
