Here is a challenge to all who plan on attending my get together on May 15th. Design your own Tin Knife! The size limitations are 4" long x 3/32" thick x 3/4" tall. I did this last year, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. These will have no handles, but if you want 2 holes for cord wrapping, no problem. The best part is that they will be free to take home with you!!!

Hi Stomper -

That is cool! I am not much of a designer, but I will see if I can draw something up - is it best to do it on card-stock or just plain old paper?

best regards

Best to do it on cardboard, then cut it out.

Sounds like fun, here's mine

Hi Stomper, I was planning on attending and wanted to know if it was ok to bring someone who is not a member of the forum? He too is an outdoorsman and is usually with me on all of my major hikes.

Hey Stomper,
I'm really looking forward to this get together and making the tin knife. Not to speak of some warmer weather! See you there!

Hi Stomper -

Ok - here is my idea for the small tin knife - keep in mind I am no designer.

scanducKie.jpg

I call it a scanducKie - It is a little shorter than 4", and the contours of it make it look like a duck - with an additional hole drilled just to make it an "eye". The scandi grind would give it a duck-bill look (kinda - sorta lol)

The other holes would be for cord if I chose to do that later.

It has a thumb contour, and there would be file-work there if that is possible with these little guys when we are up there - if not it would just be slightly beveled to make it more comfortable -

Doable?

This looks really cool. I am trying to imagine what it would feel like to hold and it looks like you would have a solid grip on it.

Hi ms3902 -

Thanks-

The contours on the bottom are made to align with my fingers, and the back of the ducks head is for my thumb.

It feels natural when I hold the cardboard in my hand. The "duck" look was really by accident, but with the scandi it just took shape that way because of the thumb-reset.

It'll be cool to grind one of these out....

best regards
