Good morning. As long as I've been smithing, I have never had the opportunity to buy my own power hammer. Until this popped up on my Facebook marketplace feed this morning. I know it's a Champion #0. The seller states the machine moves freely, motor works fine, and she has the upper and lower dies on hand.

When I go look at it, what should I be looking for. Obviously cracks in the frame/anvil and such, but other than that?

Anything in the picture (only one I have of it so far) pop out to you as a red flag?

Thanks!

These are small hammers. Simple machines, fairly easy to fix.

It won’t move much material but it is better than forging by hand.

That's more or less what I was thinking, Hoss. My elbows aren't getting any younger, and if I could do a lot of my rough forging on this, it might pay dividends down the road.

Once it's yours, you can fix it at your leisure.

I've only seen one power hammer here in a lifetime of going to farm auctions and I was a fool to let it go.

at that price, the only question you shoudl be asking is who am I gonna get to help me move this and get it home.
