Finished this one by putting gun blue on the axe head. I also re-painted the logo. I used a 28" O.P. Link boy's axe handle. Really thin. A pleasure to hang. Lots of wedge. A beauty profile to this.

thanks for looking.

coop, it looks great. I see that you touched up the head in an old fashoned way from heel to toe in a semicircular path. Dont see that much anymore. Did you use a file or stone? This is supposed to thin the middle of the blade while keeping a thicker end. I dont know if this is used mostly on felling or limbing work. What gives?Rodney

That looks great. Do you mask the edge when you apply the bluing, or polish it off after?

Good shape to that one. I like it. What made you decide not to use the wire wheel on this one, Chris?

It was already sort of shiny. I wanted to use the gun blue. And the flap sander pad works best for me in prepping that. Stull some fnish work to do.

The axe is pretty much the way I got it. Boys axes are good all arounders

I used electrical tape to mask off the bit end. Works great.

I don't know what your using, but I've used birchwood casey a number of times. On ones where I really want it to darken up, I hold the head under tap water as hot as it gets until the head is good and hot. Then I do the bluing treatment. I'll repeat the application until its as dark as I want. The heat seems to really help it darken.

Your's looks great. I'm not suggesting anything. Just a random tidbit I thought of.

That's a beauty Coop!
I was working on a TT Flint Edge boy's axe today and I was thinking about bluing it as well. Thanks for the inspiration :)

Memphis... thanks for the tip too ;)

No foolin'. That one's as fresh as they come. Fantastic axe.

IMO masking and bluing is for ebay. It will pass the public eye unnoticed. But to a more experienced eye it looks artificial.

I think it looks better than just shiny. I like the way it looks. plus this ones for me. :)

Lower right is a Champion Kelly Works boys axe...I like yours, it shows that its been given some love.
