I got a Swiss Champion 1989 and much later i picked up 3 of these Swiss Champion plus models. What i dont understand is it says plus but actually is minus one layer?

My first post here:)

Plus usually means "Plus" scales, so adding the pen and pin hole under the corkscrew. There are a bunch of variants of champion, swisschamp, and the like. Its one of the more variable names. SAKwiki has a pretty good breakdown of each.

Thanks i will look up that SAKwiki. By the way what steel does Victorinox use in their blades?

I checked out SAKwiki. What a great place to get cold hard facts. Was able to identify the two that i didnt know their identity. Super Tinker and a Standard i found on a bridge when i was out cycling. It had been run over after it fell at high speed and isnt in too bad of shape. Thx again!

My Champ has the pliers, the pen, and the pin. Yours is probably the Champion Minus Model.

I have a Champion plus. Its a great SAK for the price they can be found at. Btw there is no “Swiss” in the name like the SwissChamp model

Yes you are right it is just the Champion Plus. From what i gathered on that cool SAKwiki site the Champion was the top knife until 1985 when the Swiss Champion was launched as the new flagship. The original Champion did not have the scale accessories ( pen, tooth pick, tweezers) so they added them to the Champion and renamed it the Champion Plus. Hope i got that right?
Anyway i did not see any info on the type of steel they use for the blades other than Stainless steel? Any imput or location as to where i might find that info is appreciated.
:DDN:thumbsup:

I have seen the alphabet soup designation for the steel, but I can't remember it now. Searching here may turn it up.
