Excellent news! As of midnight tonight (Australian eastern time) Australian customs reg's will change, with the effect that non-auto, non-assisted one-handed opening knives will no longer be restricted imports. This is a Very Good Thing and a long time coming. Other restrictions will still apply (eg daggers) but this is a massive step forward. Details linked here:

For those who wrote the submissions and have been pushing for this change, THANK YOU.

Hopefully we will see more vendors and makers willing to ship Down Under.

Once we know that these are locked in, maybe a sticky can go up in the exchange so guys know exactly what they can ship to australia, and help open that up to the members down here. This will also help the custom folder guys know exactly what the rules will be, which will help them make sales. Probably a new year sort of thing, I would suspect. We will have to wait and see if the individual states make any changes in light of this. (For example, QLD's regs use different definitions than the import ones) I don't think they will, but there maybe added enforcement pressure in some other way.

I reckon there used to be a sticky around with the old information but I couldn't find it so perhaps I was imagining things. A new sticky would be good though.

I don't think the states would see a need to change their individual legislation (although it would be nice!).

about time - some common sense prevailed. those restrictions were out of place. now, please go and check out my wares for sale - all Aussie friendly :)
