I whipped up a quick and dirty kydex rig for my RC-3. The stock sheath found a permanent home on my kayak and I got tired of unscrewing it everytime I wanted to wear it. Thought you guys would like to see it.

This one might end up on the kayak instead because the boot clip doesn't fit it. It doesn't do anything better or worse than the stocker but I do prefer the color a bit.

Also made up a sheathish for my Gerber hatchet. This thing has been going everywhere with me lately and the stock cover is terrible.

Kydex, so easy, even a caveman can do it.:D

Nice! You did a really good job on that. Me likey kydex on the rc-3. I'm just not a huge fan of injection molded sheaths. I'm not complaining though...the sheath on my rc-3 mil is satisfactory.

where do you get your sheath making supplies from.
Also is anyone doing prefabricated ones? I like the minimalist look of yours and could really use one for my first up coming EDC 3 :)

Knifekits.com. Not the cheapest but they have everything and multiple colors and thicknesses of kydex so I get everything in one order and end up saving on shipping.

Great Job Bro,
Since I own a few RC3's I have all the sheathes set up differently and I just swap sheath to fit my application....Again you did a great job,I like it :D

I keep a spare sheath for mine in my backpack so I don't need to take the sheath off of the shoulder strap every time I want the knife without the bag. :)

Super cool kydex projects!

great job!! I need to pick up some stuff to start playing with some setups myself.

off question. I need some screws for my RC4 Sheath, what size screws do I need? Was hoping to pick some up at lowes today and forgot my sheath.

Not sure on the size, but the ones from Lowes suck. All they have are aluminum versions and their eighty cents a peice.

If you go to a gun shop or a sporting goods store that sells shooting accessories, you can get the good steel Chicago screws, pack of ten sets costs about $5.

Definitely try to avoid the ones at Lowe's if at all possible., I've got a few of them and they are extremely light duty aluminum, certainly not ideal but they'll do in a pinch and they're all I can find locally.

I'll check the size tonight when I get back home.

Shotgunner., or anyone else who makes their own sheaths.., what are ya'll using for the kydex press?? I've seen the ones on knifekits.com but I'm not sure I want to shell out $85 for just the small one but I would like to try my hand at making my own kydex.

Vewy tompwataded.......:D

Mine is extremely high tech.

Two layers of wal-mart camping pad, the blue one, on my kitchen floor.

Spray the parts that will be touching the kydex with Pam cooking spray.

Then the sheath and knife, hardest part is getting everything lined up properly.

Then two more layers of blue pad.

Then my really big, thick cutting board.

Then my impressively fat self standing or sitting on top of the pile.

Wait about 5-7 minutes and serve.

The molding is really very easy once you get the hang of it. The hard part is the finishing. I've been molding kydex for years but just recently really got serious about it and picked up a drillpress, bandsaw, belt sander and a buffer.

It's alot easier now and my results are much better, but doing it with a cordless drill and a Dremel yeilded decent, working sheaths.
