Alright, change of plans. I'll be going to Gettysburg battlefield on my birthday. Hopefully it won't be too crowded on a Wednesday, I'm going on the tenth next month. Maybe all of the visitors will have gotten there the weekend before. Are there any other places I should stop at in the Gettysburg/Hanover/Littlestown area? Parks, any places that are known to carry knives, any museums etc? A place to catch a good meal? I will be visiting the battlefield museum first, trying to get out of there and onto the battlefield before the day gets too unbearablly hot. I've been to and through Gettysburg many times, just wondering if I missed any spots.

Thanks.

Oh, you can't go to Gettysburg without eating lunch at Chubby's. It's just down the road in Emmitsburg, maybe a 20 minute drive? It's a kind of ramshackle little blue building on the left side of RT15 as you're going south. It' s simply the best BBQ place this side of either Memphis or Texas. The ribs I had there last time were the biggest, meatiest ribs I ever had, and you could suck the meat off the bone. Tender does not begin to describe it.

Chubby's, the blue building right on 15. Don't pass it by.:thumbup:

The following weekend, July 13th, I'm taking my baby sister to the Howard County powwow, we're stopping at Edgeworks in Frederick, and then moving on to the Catoctin Zoo, if we have enough time, on to Gettysburg. I plan to head home through Littlestown PA, I'll keep an eye out for Chubby's diner. Maybe I can become the new mascot ;)...

Oh heck, you're going right by the Mountain gate. Great buffet of good old time food that we grew up with. The Mountain Gate is the destination for a lot of rides, both bikers and the seniors in tour buses. Very good American style food at very good prices. Hand carved roast beef, ham, turkey, pot roast, fried chicken, and all the sides and trimmings to go with them.

Wow, gettin' hungrey. I haven't been to the Mountain Gate in months. May have to fire up the scoots!

Carl.
