Hello Emerson nuts! If this isn't my first post on this forum, then it is the first one I remember :) So, a big hello to you all.

I noticed that the tip geometry of commanders have changed. They used to have that swedge grind, but now they don't. Does anyone know why the change was made, and what functional differences there may be? Is it still easy to pierce things with a new commander?

I have no Emersons, but that may change before Christmas

The biggest reason for the change was due to the fact that if you r were one of the people who really used their Commnader hard and sharpened it frequesntly, after you sharpened away enough of the blade, you would start to get into the swedge grind and make the tip of the knife rather squared off or chisel like. Once this happend, you were pretty well screwed.

The new blade is better in pretty much all respects. Aesthetics aside (some people prefer the old grind, I prefer the new)the new Commander is absolutely, without-a-doubt, the best we have ever done.

I hope this helps.

hell yeah!!! i just pierced my left forearm with mine, and it's bleedin like hell, all over my keyboard:eek: talk about major owies...!!!!. i better call 911 cause i'm gettin kinda woozie and kinda ah. ahndnkdngggd kdlkgidpwijelklkglkkkmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmneeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

WOW! Thanks for the info Derek, that was awesome!

Aesthetically I prefer the swedge but it sounds like the new geometry is a better performer, which counts for more. Awesome. Crossing my fingers that within 6 weeks I can get a green handled commander...

REKATJACK,

you truly ARE a knife nut!

I received my '02 Commander 2 weeks ago. Love the new modified blade shape. The wave is eating away at my pants but other than that the knife is great for me.

It replaced my AFCK of 2 years as my EDC.

Fine piece of steel.

I see.., and thanks Derek! I was wondering why my 2002's were swedgeless. I figured there had to be a reason. It's not like you told your blade grinders to "keep grindin' those swedges..", and they all holler, "We don't wanna...!", lol. Makes good sense.

REKATJACK - ROFLMAO!!:D
