change username and renew membership

My membership is about to expire. I would like to renew it but want to change my username from beginner930 to ATX. Do I need to change the user name first, then renew my membership? The link provided on a different thread to change your username is not working properly.

Two separate functions. Go ahead and renew the membership. You can change the name anytime.
