Changing clip on copper PM2

Good afternoon!

Either today (come on USPS) or tomorrow, i'll have the new linerless PM2 in copper in my hands. I was planning on immediately swapping the Purvis timascus clip from my current PM2 to the new one but am concerned about tightening screws into copper without messing everything up. Should this be safe to do with a solid "finger tight", or will I end up blowing out the copper threads trying to change the clip?

Thanks!
Caleb

If you’re worried about the strength of the copper threads, you can add a drop of purple loctite to the screws and snug them down. In my experience with copper, the threads will be fine as long as the screws have enough thread length to consume the depth of the female threads. Of course that’s true of any handle material.

Calebpo I am in the same boat with you on this knife. I have been debating the clip swap since I received mine a few days ago but don't want to mess up the threads in the copper.

I'd think that if you clean any gunk out of the threads of the screws before applying loctite and inserting them, they'll be able to thread cleanly and provide good feedback so you can be sure of what your doing as you tighten them.

For now mine is on safe queen duty.

swapped it out last night, went totally smoothly! just took my time and didn't crank down too hard.

I’m waiting for the purple loctite and then I’m going to swap mine. Did it have anything on the threads when you removed the screws?

I just moved the clip on mine and thankfully Spyderco didn't use a thread locker on the clip screws.

Mine was not drop shut, so I removed the pivot screw on the side that broke free more easily, and inside of the pivot they did use a thread locker. Without disassembling, I cleaned the screw hole with a dry q-tip, applied blue Loctite, and set the pivot tightness where I want it.

No issues.

As expected, I dont notice the weight in my jeans pocket.

I want one in titanium.

I swapped the clip on mine minutes after opening it. No issue. I will say that I was very light on the pressure as to not strip the threading.
