For the life of me I can not loosen the screw (its the big black single one on each side). Any ideas? I had the same model years ago (the walmart one) and do not remember this much trouble

Try using a really wide flat head screwdriver. Thats how I got mine to switch over, but I am sure there are plenty of other things you can use.

1. Acquire 2 US Nickels
2. Place one nickel in each slot, at the same time
3. Turn in opposing directions.
The screw is a barrel type screw, not the standard run of mill fastener.

This is how I adjusted my pocket clip on the Salt 1. It works. :D

already tried coins, fat stubby klein screwdrivers, my oddball driver set (has about 50 different heads)

wont budge

If it's really not going to budge, and a big issue for the knife, I am sure Spyderco will take care of you.

Maybe some sort of loctite on the threads? Heat the head/s of the screws with a soldering iron or similar to break the bond.

Worth a try.

Coins are exactly what Spyderco and others have recommended. You might need to warm up the barrel a bit before trying. Best done with a soldering iron.

finally got it free, some white grease like substance and some metal grit in threads.

no loctite, great advice on heating it though. i would have done so if i could find my soldering iron :)
