Changing DEK scales!

I recently got a DEK1, which I love, and wanted to get a second set of scales for it. After removing the handle screws, I’m still unable to get off the scales. Are they affixed to the tang with a kind of glue, and if so, is there a trick to removing them? Or do I just need to use a bit more force to get them off? Thanks!

Just pry them off carefully (the rare times I've removed handle scales, I started at the cutouts for the hidden lanyard hole. I don't even want to consider how I'd get the scales off on the CPKs without that cutout).

Unless you specifically asked for the scales to be epoxied on, the only thing holding them in place is the very precise friction fit of the pins the screws thread into.

Leave the screws in on one side and use a small punch in the pin against the screw to tap the pins out.

They're tight.

Oh yeah, forgot about that trick! (Like I said, I rarely remove the scales on my CPKs).
