Changing detent strength...

Hi, I have a nice custom liner lock that I carry frequently. I am starting to get nervous about it possibly opening in my pocket. It shakes open so easily that I wonder if it could wreck my day if I reached in and the tip was exposed.
I wonder how hard it would be to fix so it didnt shake open so easily.
I had a lock up issue repaired a.few.years ago, and it seems the detent has gotten even lighter since then.
It runs on bearings, I have considered tightening it significantly but would want to crunch the bearings.
What are your thoughts on this issue gentlemen?

Thanks for your time, Russ

I would try to contact the maker of the knife and see what they suggest.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help
The way that i am looking at it is if I made someone a liner lock and someone told them to bend the lock bar, change a detent ball, or even to crank down on the pivot until it is good for now, it would take a bit of convincing for my repairing for no charge...

It may not wreck your day... but it will make you reconsider some of your life choices (from experience).

Anyway, not sure what type of knife you have, so may not work... but I made a small Kydex sheath for this knife...

... no way I'd carry it loose... but this way I can carry & use it, plus it's not just sitting at the bottom of the pocket. I just push it toward the back, and the cord makes it easy to get out.

Depends on the maker but I would certainly ask if he/she was up to a spa treatment for your knife.

When you write - "I have a nice custom liner lock that I carry frequently." that suggests to me that it's worth it for you to send away to make right. Pushing your fingers into an opened sharp blade is not worth the risk. Good luck with it.

Thanks Man, it probably will never open, I guess I was looking for an easy fix. I bought this off the exchange and the maker worked on it free once, not sure if I would feel right sending it in again. I have since bought 2 new ones from waiting on his books. His newer models have a stronger detent.

Thanks, Russ

You can have the hole in the tang where the detent ball sits drilled and widened. Sometimes the detent ball doesn't sit very deeply in the hole and that's what can cause weak detents. Springing the lockbar is another option but it can exacerbate the problem.
