I love the Sebenza but I am not a big fan of the pointed thumb lug. Has anyone ever taken out the original CRK thumb lugs and put in aftermarket thumb studs? I prefer something a little more rounded more like the ones that Benchmade uses.

If you have changed them out how do you get the factory CRK thumb lug out?

One of my EDC is a large sebenza with polished scales and a filed down thumb stud. No reason to change it, just file off the top tear, problem fixed.

If it is a single side stud you can use a press and a punch and push it out from the backside while it's centered over a hole on the bottom side.

I agree about the Stud being less than ideal. I wish the Sebbie stud was not so pointy cause the blade on my has a strong detent and it's borderline painful to use the sharp stud. This is keeping me from carrying the beautiful Decorated UG 21 I got for my birthday :(

I carry the Umnumzaan instead when I need a CRK fix, but would like to carry the Sebbie on occasion too...

I don't particularly care for the pointiness of brand-new Sebenza studs either, but they round off pretty fast, just from use - particularly if you're using the knife with dirty hands. It does not take much effort at all to knock the point down to a much friendlier state.

This is a bit of a fine line. When I've been doing stuff outdoors and have good callous, sharper feels better. If I've been indoors working on the computer, and cultivated "princess" hands, duller feels better.

I think the sharper studs are better in the cold, when you don't have much sensation - definitely better than BM-style studs. You have to be careful though, as brand-new stud + callous + cold, can = ripping a hole in your thumb.

Does anyone know what size thumb stud would best fit if I was to go to knifekits.com to pick one up?

I put the studs from a BM grip on my small Seb and they work great

I don't mind the factory ones so much. It took me a few weeks of use, and now they don't cause a discomfort any longer.

personally, i've never found the conical stud to be painful.

moreover, i think that the cone shape is very functional in that it gives your thumb a good purchase in the (somewhat small) recess of the classic's frame cut out.

its a press fit thumb stub.... if you can find a machinist that can make you one just measure the inner diameter and have at it. Design what you want as long as it doesnt interfere with the liner. Have some initiative and make what you want. then post it so I can copy it, or get a patent
