I recently bough Shun Sora for 79USD. I chose it because the lower price when compared to other lines of Shun knives.
I like the way they polish the blade, however, the plastic handle does not match well the the price I paid.

I decided to change the handle. as below photos.

I use a sacrifice utility knife to take out the plastic handle.

Using the heat, then I can cut through the old handle, spending about 2 hours.

I loose my 5USD utility knife forever as it is never taken back the edge.

The new handle using local wood. This is before painting and I think I will use it without painted for a while.

What good is that after changing the handle. The balance is still great at the bolster.

Por,
I'm not sure what you mean by "painting the handle"? Nor "Local wood" ? I suggest you leave the handle alone as you will be preparing food with knife.

It looks very nice now with the new handle you made.

That's sweet! Rub a little boiled linseed oil on it and that grain will really stand out. Nice job!

I mean I may put some oil to cover the natural wood. I agree that it should not be painted.

By local wood I mean I don't know what kind of wood it is. I live in Thailand so it is Thai local wood.
Thanks. :)
