Changing times; changing Suspect carries?

Just curious; have you guys altered your daily pack-out since all the terrorist activity began? I've been giving this alot of thought today, because it occurred to me this morning while preparing to drive down the mountain for some quick shopping and banking, that I was clipping on more gear than usual. This has been becoming a trend for me lately.

Today I'm carrying:
1. Glock 23 and two spare mags (as opposed to my Glock 27 and 1 spare mag)
2. Ryan M1
3. 98 Commander #28
4. MT UT6
5. Perrin G10 Griffe neck knife.
6. Surefire M2 Centurion

And lately I've noticed that all of my knife purchases are geared towards blades that will take extreme abuse and that will last for years to come.

My wife and I recently upgraded out Star-tac cell phones as well. We keep them always on and always with us.

I also spend more time with my firearms lately, mainly brushing up my skills on local predators and varmints. And when we're home we have more firearms within reach.

All of my changes have been very subconscious, because it just now hit me today that my methods and modes are becoming substantially more tactically elevated. It's quite nice to realize that this happens naturally without any conscious effort taking place.

Anyone else noticed themselves raising the bar a notch or two lately?

Now I'm really thinking about all of this.

We've been stocking up on batteries and spare bulbs lately for all of our flashlights.
We have more candles set out than usual, ready to be lit.
We've increased our water storage reserves, and last weekend I ran a few gallons through my Katadyn filter just to make certain that it was functioning properly.
I've recently taken an ammunition inventory and made sure that I was comfortable with the amounts on hand.
We've purchased new hiking boots, and winter clothing.
We've doubled our supply of firewood for the winter.
We've doubled out stockpile of livestock food, and dog food.
We've checked the dates and quality of our storage food.

I'd be willing to bet that this is typical of Suspect mindsets. I believe that we prepare ourselves for the worst without making a conscious effort to do so. It's just our nature.

What do you guys think?

Eric,
SOP for me and the gang I hang out w/.
I seem to be more in Orange than usual however.
Yes, my Tactical Mindset has been elevated for sure.

I can only hope others wake up, mainly the "SHEEPLE".

Our well is 70 feet deep and below the bedrock, so it's a guaranteed uncontaminated water supply. We have a high volume hand pump to draw the water up that far in case the electricity goes.

Emergency food supplies are a life long consideration and stock is rotated regularly.

Ammo will never be a problem with many thousands of rounds of primers, many MANY pounds of powder, and enough cast and jacketed bullets to sink a river barge.

As to my tactical mindset, it occured to me last night that I have not lost a single live steel duel since 9/11. Today was no exception.
It wasn't a concious thing and I wasn't even aware of it. It just happened.

As to what I carry EDC, none of that has changed. I always go "loaded for bear."
;)

All I have to say is, God Bless America and thank God for the buy one get one free offer on D, C, AA and AAA Energizer Batteries. I've been buying what I can since this crap started bellowing forth.

Get what you can. I had alot of stuff from the Y2K fiasco.

I can do what I have to do, and I always try to be that way regardless of current fears, hysterias and unrest.

Being campers ect.we always have gear and supplies at home, but we have been adding to them.I also have been shooting much more.Today we set up a new range on our farm land,so I plan to shoot and shoot.

I have been carrying my Glock more than ever,I mean its with me when I work out at the y now.My multi-tool is on my belt much more lately also.

I have a source of unlimited AA batteries,I mean truck loads. There used, about 80% of the charge is left though.I get them by the pail full.

I have also been bringing more gear to work with me,spare mags, lights ect.a lot can happen between 4 in the afternoon and 7 in the morning when I go home.I have also added my Hobbits fang to my on the job carry.

Well, I posted a while back asking if anyone changed their behavior after 9/11.

The biggest thing I've seen is regular sheeple/people in the SF Bay Area being overly sensative to my Commander clipped to my pocket. "My God! its a KNIFE!' "Isn't that what those terrorists highjacked the plane with?" "They must be bad things along with those other dangerous things....ah....yeah those....guns".

Do I really care? Well..........yes and no. I just can't show up at my kids school with hardware hanging all over me...even though they know what I do for a living. Other parents say "Hi" but don't want to have much to do with you. I personally don't care but as a parent I don't want to handicap my kid at school. These days I just secrete the knife in my pants pocket. However,
I still operate on the premise of, 'better to have and not need than need and not have".

I've always had plenty of stuff stockpiled before Y2K and added more for that event. I've found myself adding more gear, etc. in my car and at work these days than at home.
But I am almost always with firearm, mags, cuffs, surefire, extra lithiums, cellphone, knife, etc. I learned a long time ago the hard way when I was a wet behind the ears LEO that when the merde hits the ventilator you better have the stuff you need with you or you are SOL!

I love how before 9/11, anyone who had an interest in protecting themselves, or their family by getting survival training or owning guns was considered a "nut", "loner", or "physco" and seen as a public menise, who should be locked up in a mental institution for their own good. Now everyone is stocking up, getting training and buying guns. This type of survival minded metality is now called being PRUDENT. People have realized what a few of us have always know "prepare for the worst and most likely the worst will not happen." Many people have waited too long and as a result are ill prepared.
I have not altered my normal carry assortment which includes Emerson Knives, it takes me longer to put on all my "stuff" knives, lights, tools etc than it does to get dressed. I always carry the same amount of stuff and never leave home without it. Because with my luck, the day i dont carry my 'stuff' is the day i will need it :) )

The mall I went to recently posted some 20+ rules. Here's the juicy stuff;
No dancing, loitering, taking pictures of the stores or the mall itself, sitting on plants or garbage cans.

I have always carried "more than enough". Three folders, multi-tool, two keychain folders. I have recently added a mini-maglite, and a couple of photon wannabees. Bright little lights, you can get one for $5 to $7 depending on style. I have increased my solo knife drills to try to hone what minor training I do have.

Oh, I also bought a cane. Hickory, and legal in all 50 states. It does a number on my training dummy.

I haven't changed too much, I still carry my SOCFK, and as the
cooler weather arrives here in New England, my mode of carry will stay the same.
Glock27 in a shoulder rig and a S&W m36 w/bobbed hammer in D.A.only in a jacket pocket. I also carry a machete, ax and folding shovel within reach in my car

Hey JB! How the HELL did you manage to get a Mass carry permit?? When I tried, the Cheif basically told me I'd have a better shot at bedding Anna Kournikova. :(

Its probably because you live in boston, here in New York it goes by county, its not impossible to get one in long island and upstate ny, but its almost impossible to get one in NYC.

Chris: I'd give it a shot...I also heard 'she' had a mass carry permit! :p

Geee, thanks, Ray. Bastid. :D Tell Mrs. Ray I said "hey!"

Eric - my daily carry is still only one knife (I can see the shock on all your faces from here). Yep. Only one. And, as of tonight, that one is my '98 commander!!! He he he heeeee!! I LOVE this thing!! :D

LOL! My weak hand is still just that. I don't trust it yet to carry anything on that side. So, just the commander in the right front pocket. :D You'll be able to tell it's me walking down the street. I'll be the guy listing to the right.

Chris: ...and the guy with a smile stretching from ear to ear! LOL

As for me, I continue to carry my Commander (a la See2), RH pocket. The P-SARK rides in a nylon pouch on the belt. Mrs. Ray continues to carry her 3 blades: EKI mini-7 on her person, the other two in her purse.

After reading the previous posts, I've also started to amasse batteries and candles. In the vehicle, I've put together an emergency duty bag which contains amoung other things, surefire lights, non-perishable food lots (MRE's) and a couple of fixed blades. I've doubled the visits to the range to keep the senses sharp.

You just never know...

I answered nearly same question about what I was carrying on 09/04/01.

Basically, my gear was exactly the same, with the exception that I have started carrying an Emerson "Tanto" folder in the place of the MT LUDT.

Oh and I'm not carrying the Glock punch right now. I gave it away to a coworker. I have since recieved a plug that fits into the butt of a Glock that has a punch in it.
