Hi, i'm pretty new to bladeforums and had a question about a spyderco chaparral i purchased. I wanted to know if pushing the lock in while the blade is closed should be chipping my blade? I have one tiny chip in the blade, and took the knife apart and noticed that if i press the lock in while the blade is closed it hits the blade edge. I tried resharpening it to get the chip out and then did this again just to verify if it was the lock that was damaging the blade and sure enough another chip in the same spot. So is this normal or a warranty issue? thanks guys

First why would you be pressing the lock on the knife when it is closed? Second by taking it apart you may have voided the warranty.

It's my first lockback so I just wasn't sure if pushing on the lockbar while it was closed was supposed to hit the edge or not.

I reckon theyll take care of you even if its void, when shit the lock bar should hit the choil, and I have no idea how its chipping it. since its void could I have a pic of it with the sides removed?

I'm sure they'd fix it. Though people have stated taking apart the knife voids warranty, the warranty still only says that any damage caused by disassembley will void warranty not specifically that disassembley at all will void warranty.

I mean, I don't know why pressing the lock in while the knife is closed is something you would do(I love to play with my knives too, it's okay lol), but it definitely shouldn't hit the blade if you so choose to do so.
I just checked both of my Lock Back Spyderco's(Caly 3 CF/Damascus and Chaparral) to see if they did the same thing and neither did.

I would write Spyderco and send it in to be fixed. Or the place you bought it from may allow you to exchange it since this one isn't doing as it should.
