Anyone here re-use the containers that chapstick comes in? A couple years ago I was bothered by a splinter and didn't want to dig a crater in my finger/hand to get it out. I needed a needle but couldn't think of a safe way to carry it. An empty chapstick container ended up being perfect for my belt-bag (bag when they weren't so 'non-cool').

Anyone else ever use/re-use one for anything?

Yep! I've carried a couple of needles and thread in a chapstick tube for years. It also works for a small bit of fishing line, a few small hooks and a couple of split shot. I use carbon steel knives almost exclusively, and a bit of pastewax carried in a chapstick tube works wonders for maintaining such a knife in the field. They're about the next best thing to sliced bread!

Guys:

Don't overlook the neat little waterproof tubes that Advil, Bufferin, Tylenol come in... once you get the lable off, the outside is usually rough enough to be permanently labeled with a Sharpie..

I also just put together a survival fishing kit in an empty Listerine PocketPack... it will hold a half dozen asst. hooks, split shot, a small spinner or jig, two or three swivels, and there is sufficient space to wrap 20 ft. or so of 10# Spyder monofilament around the back of the case. I close the flap (just in case) with a small strip of yellow electrician's tape...:D:) :)
