So today was yard clean up, Fall is my favorite time of year, but, leaves are in abundance. I wanted to get in some play time today, before the yardwork commenced, so I took stock of my fire kit inventory (gots some stuff comin' up soon), and saw I was low on char cloth. Better get some made. Here we go:
List of stuff- ESEE3, ESEE Fire kit(stocked with fatwood shavings), a tin (thanks Slugman, you gots the tins for sure) and an old dishrag
I tabletoped the rag into strips using a pull through
While I was playing, the Big One, decided to get in some target practice.
Strips into patches, ESEE3 to the rescue
This was a new tin, and I needed a pinhole in the top, ESEE3 again, with its needle point tip, perfect 1/8"hole.
Kids these days have no attention span, at least she's outside, and not in front of a Playstation. Catchin' anything?
Time for the FIRE, we always talk about getting the "spark", but preparation is the key to a successful fire. Sorry, I know we all know that, but I thought this would make a good pic.
Now she's rollin', I'm picking up the yard in between the shots, waiting for coals.
Tin stocked with terry cloth rag patches, hole punched, and coals ready. Lets char some cloth.
Smoke is boiling out of the hole, I go until I get a little jet of flame out of it. Note: When you pack your tin, make sure there is no cloth near the hole or it will clog up
I got my little jet of flame, still got some good coals, better brew some tea while I wait for my tin to cool to the touch.
All done. The tea was good, a little lemon and sugar. Charcloth turned out well, it took a spark right away. What you don't see is Lady glaring at me with her work gloves on, a CS Kukri 'chete in hand, standing by the burn pile. I just sat back and enjoyed a beautiful late morning in the fall, cool air, beautiful lady, warm tea, and a successful mission. Thanks to all. Moose
