Character marks on a well used knife

I have made several remarks from time to time that a great knife should be used, and accordingly they will show some signs that use has occurred.

While I am not a big fan of false patina, I do appreciate the look of a knife that tells a story.

I am happy to say that some (but not all) of the corrosion spots that I showed a while back have diminished considerably. I have a hard time posting photos any more (my account got hacked) so I just made a video. It is better to show how the marks appear and disappear under different lighting anyway.

Anyway, share them if you got them, and do not be afraid to use DT blades...they are a lot tougher than some think;)

Nice, love seeing a used sebbie, and used damascus is even cooler. I read somewhere that you could oxidice back the pattern if it got shiny, maybe that would take care of you're cardboard markings if you think it's to much.

I really love the Damascus sebs! I would love a plain with Damascus blade.

Mine is acquiring some beauty marks.

Don't have any pics, but I was enjoying how my small clip point was getting that gradual pocket wear starting at the pivot end from going in and out of the pocket. I love that worn look that's not forced. I think that's partially a reason I went back to clipped carry with my small Insingo so that I can get some wear on it in the same fashion.

Here's my Stars and Stripes. Old war horse! Just can't bring myself to send it in for a spa.

That pivot looks like it requires a torx bit to service. What happened?

Very worn scews, nearly stripped. Those are the original factory screws and the standard allen wrench still fits them. I have since replaced those screws but still have the originals.

Problem is that CRK knives don't show wear easily, you almost have to have the right light and angle.

I love charachter marks on well-used knives as well.

I just received my newest acquisition, a Large 21 Plain Ladder Damascus from Techno. Great buying experience from him. He was kind enough to break it in for me.:) After disassembly, cleaning, some CRK lube, reassembly, and a lanyard, it is beautiful and smooth as glass. (I must add that it did not need any of this at all; I do that with all used knives I buy to make myself feel better and to make it mine symbolically) It is so smooth that it is equal to my Zaan. I'm carrying it today along with my Zaan.

Nice pics, that Sebenza looks great as a user.

Thank you, rexromic.:) I appreciate that.

I have wanted a Plain Large 21 Damascus for a EDC user ever since I bought my first CRK. (The one in my username pic)

This is one of my grail CRK's, believe it or not. The unique beauty of DT Damascus inside plain Ti scales that will develop their own unique beauty with use and time is very special to me in many ways.

We talk sometimes about CRK's having a soul. This one, for me, is the epitome of that anthropomorphism. Indeed, there is something esoteric and elusive about CRK's that I've never experienced with any other knives in the 25+ years I've collected and used knives.. and I really don't know why that is, but it is.

Edit: Apologies for getting a bit weird about this... must be getting rather introspective closer to Christmas.:)

I feel the same way about the Sebenza. As you said it is a great knife, influential and has something which made me sell almost all other knives.I'am in a process of ordering UG Raindrop Damascus 21,which will be my user. That Damascus is like a living thing,as I watched videos colour changes into shades, just plain beautiful.
Well yes, it is almost Christmas so I'am in the festive mood as well :).Cheers.

That's my favorite combo! I carry one everyday. The only time it's not on me is when I'm on the plane or in church. It's been known to hide in a slip sheath and slide in my Sunday pants on occasion though. [emoji6]

I can't post pics, which might disqualify my post, but my first Seb, a large regular, has some good character marks on it.

This very morning on my walk, carrying my large Insingo clipped to RF pocket, I tripped in the street (a particularly rough-surfaced street). In the semi-darkness, the considerable bump had been nearly invisible. I fell hard and fast, but luckily I instinctively did a Judo front fall I remembered from childhood. No injuries except skinned palms and knees (and part of a pant leg torn). However, the clip, especially on the end of it, got some good scratches. Lol. Neither a nice, nor a preferred way to start its character marks, but at least nothing was damaged (to person or knife).

All entries are qualified;)

I handed the knife in the video to my brother yesterday to open the beers I brought. He looked at me sideways (I cannot open them because I'm recovering from surgery). I told him that the knife had opened perhaps 100 beers previously, he examined it, and shrugged before popping the caps.

These things are tougher than people think, use them and enjoy the occasional mark you get. FWIW the slabs do not even show a mark from where the caps contact during liftoff.
