I believe but am not sure you get less force if the weight is in the handle, unless your throwing blade in hand. Ralph Thorn throws bobby branton throwers in his video which have the weight in the front. But middle works also. I do not know what you mean by the handle must be heavy as i have used the blank flying steel knives with great success and they have light handles.
