im currently considering purchasing a TTI and was curious as to its corrosion resistance. im guessing its common knowledge that the original TI had a horrid rust issue. i was just wondering if any long time owners of a TTI, even though its only been release a few months ago, have had any issues in this area. if not, have you been oiling or taking extra precautions to prevent this or just basic cleaning and drying?

thanks

i've had mine a week (xti), its been polished then rinsed to get the polish off hard to reach spots, it's been splashed (accidentally) and whilst clipped in my pocket it has seen heavy rain splashed onto it. I know the tti uses a harder blade, so I cannot comment, but I suppose they use the same steel for the rest of it ? ? ? Not a single microscopic hint of rust yet... Crosssed fingers !!!!!!

and i didn't dry it afterwards. I just put it in my pocket, and the cloth and warmth from my leg probably drys it easy enough. I actually didn't think of that, now that I recall, i remember reading someone's bad experience with one rusting from the get go, on holiday??. I had forgotten, glad to report no such luck. Good luck in deciding..

I called Leatherman today before buying an XTI (on clearance at Cabela's for $69!). They told me all their tools are 420 stainless steel, with only the handle and knife blades varying. The XTI of course uses 154CM on BOTH of the knife blades and the TTI uses S30V on BOTH knife blades, per Leatherman customer service. They speculate that lack of care of the tool has caused rust and that the Charge line of tools is no more susceptible.

Jeff.

After a quick visit to Leatherman's website I am inclined to agree with Leatherman123 in that I believe only the plain edge clip point is S30V. I realize it was many months ago but whoever Pseudo-Fed Spoke to at Leatherman CS either misunderstood or was mistaken. Anybody know for sure? -DT
