I just got a Charge TTi in camo. I'm thinking of returning it it because it is very tight. My wife can barely open or close it. Also when i use it gets black stuff all over my hands (paint?).

I'm not to worried about the paint but I don't want to use a tool that is so hard to close.

thanks
jeff

They pretty much all (Cabelas 3D) or black coated come that way. Get an old rag spray a little WD-40 on the rag and wipe down all the black metal, then dry rub it again ....should be better. On tightness you can back out the torx screw slightly it will give you more play. Over time it will break in. Congrats on your new Camo.

Are you saying that the point where the handles attach to the plier heads is tight, or the pliers themselves opening and closing? If it's the pliers themselves get some light oil, get everywhere on the pliers with it, even in the center where they are rivited together, it will get into there. You should see some type of color other than clear come out if its working correctly if you open and close them for a few minutes. Don't be shy with the oil, you can clean it out later with a degreaser or air compressor.

the point where the handles attach to the pliers head are tight. Once open the pliers are fine.

Thanks for the tips!

Buy two 6 pointed security torx bits and loosen them. The one on the blade side is male and on the saw side is female. The black is just the oxide coating.

If you're brave (not that difficult but being a new tool and all you may be scared) remove the handles completely. Clean off the handles/washers/screws/pliers with a degreaser and apply oil to everything but the screws. Clean the screws with rubbing alcahol, then get some blue loctite and after everything is all reassembled and the pivot bolt is in, put a dab or two of blue loctite on the screws and screw them tight, then back off until it's perfect the way you want it, but make sure they dont wobble, it will cause premature wear. It could just be that it's dirty. I do this with all my new knives/multi tools i can disassemble. Theres always crap left over from the manufacturing process. While you're at it, lightly oil the tools too. I like doing this with a new tool because it cleans all the junk out, then youre left with a muddy or dirty colored oil that you wipe away, then when everything comes out clear you know it's clean!
