hey guys. The mechanic in the family (my grandfather) is sleeping right now so I can't consult him. My buddy and I have been working on his truck and one thing we needed to do was recharge the batteries. My grandfather has a charger from when he worked and I'm harging the batteries on 12v low. It's around 11 volts and 30-35 amps (both batteries read these). Should I charge longer? I've charged them 2 hrs so far.

How many amps is the charger? A charged 12V batt. should read almost 13.9V fully charged with no load on it. Or at least, over 12 volts. The first thing I recommend before charging any dead battery is to add distilled water to the proper level if it's not one of the maintenance free ones.

Yep it needs about 4 more hours it's in bad shape that Battery. You might need a new one if it doesn't get to 12 volts.

Oh yeah. It could take six or eight hours depending on how large the battery is.

it's a 34/78 size truck battery. 2 of em. It's on a slow 12 volt charge, where as it has 12 boost for a quick charge. The ampmeter shows around 25 amps when charging and the volt meter around 11. But when I turn it off and attach to one of the batteries the ampmeter shows 35 amps. It's been charging about 2.5 hrs right now.

leave the charger on it overnight before getting worried about the state of the cells.
