My beautiful green bone handled Charles May Fireant was waiting for me when I cam home from work today!! What an incredible knife!! I LOVE this knife so VERY, VERY much!! I have been wanting one of these knives ever since I first saw one!! It has a beautiful D2 blade, and one of Mr. May's amazing leather pocket sheaths. I am probably going to order one of his leather neck sheaths as well, just to have another option to carry. It is a perfect little pocket fixed blade!! I couldn't BE happier with this knife!! And Charles is AWESOME to deal with. What a kind and wonderful gentlemen is he is!! The hardest part is choosing what knife to order next!!

TKC,Congrats,Charlies knives are one of my favorites I think he told me of the green bone once, get a picture up here if you can, please ??
I was looking at 2 new models, the "Bob White",and the "Lil Big Woods" in a scandi
I love his knives,Charlie is a real great guy to do business with,I consider him a good friend,I am hoping to personally meet him at Blade '08.
Charles is a real avid hunter-fisherman,and he's probably the most experienced woodsman I'll ever have met, amongst a few,of course
Top 4 knives in this so so pic are my C May's

One of the nice things about that FireAnt.....She sits down in his fantastic sheath real nice, and is just right for being not too big for a pocket, but still plenty of knife to do most chores, just all in all,a nice set-up,Congrats again.
I try to stay on his list,permanently,if I can,lol...

What's the opinion on the scandi versions? Is it worth it?
thanks
ben
safd, lets not go crazy on this,in this thread, but what do you mean,"is it worth it"
The C May Scandi ground knife is the same monetary amount
Now as far as trade off/cutting/re-sharpening....All I gotta say is you should try one, that top knife is actually a bird and trout,I can take that knife,go out in the garden, cut roots in the dirt, come in,re-strop it on a "rock",and slice tomatoes or newspaper with it,no BS
You oughtta try one,go see Bill at Michigan knives,he has a few on hand,or get one from Charles,in a few months....

Shaldag, I miss you!! Thanks!! I LOVE the Fireant. Yes, things are going well. I have a job until go back to being a traveling Surgical Tech; and travel to Alaska, Montana & Idaho. The traveling adventure is going to happen this coming Fall.

I WILL get a pix taken as soon as I can. I LOVE the leather sheath that he makes for it too. It is perfect. I love that Bob White knife too. Charles doesn't make a knife that I don't like!! His stuff is awesome!!

Yeah, by 'is it worth it', I meant do you notice more performace out of the edge. I'm on his list for an Ant and didn't know which route to take, when my time comes.
thanks
ben

I have five Charles May knives. I don't believe you could find a more "exacting" knife maker. He strives for high quality control and studies his designs. I have four more on order, including a small fire ant model and one of his bird & trout knives.

The scandi grinds are very useful and make a good bushcraft knife.

I know you will enjoy your new fireant, I have a new camp knife (6 1/2 inch blade) I need to photograph, it's really a nice knife.

After seeing the pictures, it is much easier to understand your enthusiasm.

I agree with all the comments about Mr. May's knives. I have a FireAnt, black micarta with mosaic pins. It's a great little knife. Bill

DO get your order in. I believe that due to an article in Tactical Knives, there is now a year wait for his knives. You will LOVE your Fireant when you get it.
